Akuna Bay Cruising Club

Annual General Meeting 2010

Saturday 21 August, 2010

Once again the Club chose to be on the water for their annual AGM, and once again we chose the Matilda Cruises catamaran as our venue. Some forty members and friends were able to enjoy the excellent service, the great food and the ever changing harbour scenery which provided a great backdrop for our minimalistic formalities.

Vice Commodore Kim Murray organised a bus to and from Akuna Bay, and many Club members took advantage of this service, which only added to the fun and frivolity of the day.

The actual meeting lasted only about thirty minutes, which was adequate time to vote in our Commodore and new committee. There was no contest for the executive positions, as all positions were rolled over from last year, surely a testament to their efforts in running our Club so well for the previous twelve months. There was only one change in the Committee, as Marcia graciously stepped down, with her position being filled by Brian Budden. A huge thanks to all of these good folk, as without an active and enthusiastic committee we wouldn't have the successful club that we all enjoy so much. (Maybe federal parliament could learn a few things from us, as our election was much smoother and more decisive than theirs!!).

After the formalities Terry Arnold once again recited his poem "Ode to Akuna Bay", which was hastily but brilliantly written for our Australia Day activities earlier this year. Then it was time for our Court Jester, Brian Budden to do his 'thing', which involved a serious roasting to Bob Taylor (after his recent operation). Steve & Kim Smith also copped a serve for their recent retirement. All of which was in good taste and thoroughly entertaining. Thanks Brian.

On our return to Akuna Bay, there was an informal gathering in the Clubroom, to witness the unfolding of the federal election, whilst sharing a drink or two in front of the television. Unfortunately the results were not as conclusive as the ABCC AGM Elections, but we still had a great night.

PS. Terry's poem "Ode to Akuna" can be found in the "News" section (Jan 2010)
