Akuna Bay Cruising Club

Annual General Meeting, Lunch and Harbour Cruise.

Saturday 22 August, 2009

Over 40 Club members enjoyed a wonderful afternoon cruising around the harbour in perfect Sydney weather. With a great buffet style lunch and ample liquid refreshments, what better environment for what would normally be considered as another boring Annual General Meeting. But not for the Akuna Bay Cruising Club.

The actual formalities were quickly and efficiently disposed of, with a new Commodore, new Treasurer and a couple of new Committee Members being whisked into their new roles in record time. Vice Commodore and Public Officer, Kim Murray ensured that all legal requirements were met, and Jeff Sheehan, took the helm of the Cruising Club as Commodore for 2009/10.

Appropriate gifts and sincere thanks were passed on to the outgoing Commodore, Steve Smith for his outstanding efforts as Commodore over the past four years. If you have any doubts as to Steve's contribution to the Club, simply read his various Commodores' Reports and weep if you missed out on any of the fun we've had.

Also a big thank you to Marcia Southern, who resigned as Club Treasurer after a similarly long stint, during which time her financial skills were honed to perfection and her decorating and design skills added hugely to the success of numerous Club functions.

Margaret Taylor was welcomed as new Treasurer. Bernadette Woolacott also joined the Committee, giving longstanding member Janet Gardner a well deserved break.

The new Club Board is as follows:
Commodore: Jeff Sheehan
Vice Commodore (and Public Officer): Kim Murray
Secretary: Stephen Smith
Treasurer: Margaret Taylor
Committee:
Warren & Wendy Armour
Frank Gardner
Marcia Southern
Bernadette Woolacott

The cruise concluded at 5:00pm, and the Akuna Bay bus departed from Darling Harbour at 6:00pm, arriving back at Akuna Bay at about 7:00pm at which time many members re-assembled in the Clubroom for a Bledisloe Cup BBQ. A fitting conclusion to a wonderful day.
