Akuna Bay Cruising Club

Elvis sighted (and heard) on Refuge Beach (by Kaptain Kaos)

Tuesday 20 November, 2007

"Oh what a night it was, it really was " when about 30 Club Members were treated to some very special moments on Refuge Beach on Saturday evening (November 17).

Following our hugely successful New Members night on Friday, many members settled in Refuge Bay in a variety of raft-ups to continue the great feeling of camaraderie that had been started on the Friday night.

So with the sun setting slowly in the west (as it usually does), a procession of tenders, loaded with Club Members, wine, cheese, biscuits and other good stuff, headed to the beach for some quiet pre-dinner conversation and to remind ourselves how lucky we are to live in Australia and be able to enjoy (afford?) this lifestyle.

Having just about convinced ourselves that life was pretty damn good, we were treated to a real bonus. We convinced a somewhat reluctant Paddy Twohill to bring out the guitar and treat us to a few Elvis songs (Paddy had attended our New Members night as guests of Warren and Wendy, and does a mean Elvis impersonation).

Imagine (if you weren't there), a perfect evening, low tide on Refuge Beach at twilight, surrounded with some great boatie mates, a glass of wine (maybe your second, or third) in your hand, some Elvis ballads being beautifully sung to the accompaniment of an acoustic guitar. The waterfall, cliff and bush as a backdrop, many of us humming, swaying or quietly joining in the chorus.......................HEY !! it doesn't get much better than this !!

That's our CLUB............
