Akuna Bay Cruising Club

Annual General Meeting "Who'll stop the rain?"

Wednesday 22 August, 2007

The atrocious weather conditions could not dampen the enthusiasm aboard the "Matilda 11" cruise catamaran on the afternoon of Sunday, August 19. With almost 50 Club Members in attendance, the pouring rain was barely noticed, as we were snug and warm, well fed and well lubricated. As usual the 'Matilda" crew provided us with excellent food and service as we cruised around the harbour (though I don't think anybody really noticed the scenery).

The actual AGM was held with the minimum of fuss, with Commodore Steve Smith being re-elected unopposed, Kim Murray replacing husband Scott as Vice Commodore, Marcia Southern bravely standing again as Treasurer, with Jeff Sheehan backing up as Secretary.

The Committee comprises Frank and Janet Gardner, Kim Smith, Trisha Sheehan and welcomes "new chum" Milan Mitrovic. We look forward to a new calendar of proposed Club activities for the coming season (check the 'coming events' link regularly).

Past Commodore Keith Turner, with assistance from Jenny, then gave us an interesting talk on their recent 6 month adventure to the Whitsundays and return, in their Riviera 40 Aft Cabin "Latitude Dancer. This was accompanied by a slide show of their adventure, with the basic theme being to 'live your dream', as it had been a long time dream to do the trip. They are now looking forward to doing it again.

The day was another great Club get-together, proving again that when you're with a great group of friends, nothing else matters much. If you are a Club Member and not yet getting involved in Club activities, you really are missing out on some great times.
