Akuna Bay Cruising Club

Commodore's Message

Tuesday 02 August, 2005

As the Club year draws to a close, we can look back on an interesting year where Club Membership has dropped only slightly and we finish the year with 66 boats on the register. I am also aware of a few other members that have sold their boats recently or moved on for other reasons and will not be continuing with membership.

Perhaps it's time to ask ourselves "what do we expect from our membership of the Akuna Bay Cruising Club next year" ?

To many, it is simply access to the Club's five well placed and well maintained moorings, to others it's the chance to make friends on the water and to some it's a chance to learn more about boating from the more experienced Club members.

Whatever your reason for being a member, it's always great to get some feedback on what you feel about the Club and its activities. We have a substantial membership, most of whom are berthed at Akuna Bay and we have the ability to 'make a difference'.

We have a wonderful opportunity to share boating experiences and knowledge through the Club and more particularly though the WebSite. If you've had a good (or bad) experience, with a tradesman, a service supplier or a product, how about sharing it with other members. Simply email it to me and we can share it with other members, let's make the WebSite more useful and interesting.

Recently the Club organized a Marine Radio Operators course with the Volunteer Coast Guard. 10 boats (represented by 17 members) attended the course over 3 nights in the Club Room at Akuna Bay. This was a wonderful and entertaining learning experience, extremely well run by the Chris Gillett and David White of the AVCG. As a result of this we sat for our MROVCP (Marine Radio Operator's Licence of Proficiency).

The Annual General Meeting is just around the corner, so if you haven't made your booking yet please let Marcia Southern know your intention. It promises to be another great afternoon on the harbour, full details are on the 'events' column.
By now you should all have the 'Notice of Meeting' and other AGM documents and new blood will be welcomed on the Committee, so don't be shy.

See you on the water...
