Akuna Bay Cruising Club

Commodore's Message

Tuesday 21 June, 2005

So how about this "winter" weather we've been having ?? Apart from the ridiculously short days, it has been exceptional boating weather and good to see so many Club Members out enjoying it. A few of us even made the trip to the harbour for the June long weekend and what a brilliant ride with barely a ripple on the water, a very comfortable 90 minutes each way.

There has been some concern expressed about use of Club Moorings by multiple boats.
Please be aware that there are very clear Club Rules for the use of Club Moorings and in simple terms, a maximum of 5 boats is recommended, but only in 'ideal' conditions, reducing to 3 (or less) in rough and windy conditions. The weight and wind effect on larger vessels in multiple raft-ups should always be taken into account, as the cost to the Club in relocating 'dragged' moorings is significant. Remember the vessel master must exercise good seamanship and commonsense at all times.

We have now secured the services of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard to run a Marine Radio Course over two Friday nights at Akuna Bay (8th & 15th July), full details are in the "Events" listing.
Be aware that you DO NEED A LICENCE to legally operate a marine VHF Radio and this course presents an easy way to achieve your licence at a greatly reduced rate. Please advise promptly if you wish to participate in this course.

The Sanctuary Cove Boat Show was well patronized by many Club Members and as usual, the show was great and the weather perfect. Our "Club Dinner" in Surfer's Paradise on the Friday night was enjoyed by 26 members and friends. If you haven't experienced the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, book yourself in for next year, it's a great way to spend a few days.

Our next Annual General Meeting is again on Sydney Harbour on August 28th and again the Club is subsidizing the cost, see "Events" for full details. This promises to be agreat day and with the cost being subsidised is exceptional value. This is also your chance to get involved in the Club and maybe even take a position on the Committee, as all positions will be declared vacant and nominations welcomed for the next Club year. Full details, agenda and nomination forms will be posted prior to the AGM.

See you on the water
