Commodore's Update 21 February 2016

Dear Members,
I hope you've had a great Summer of Boating - Margaret and I certainly have!
The Club has some of our usual regular events coming up and we do hope you can attend at least some of them.
Set out below are details of key upcoming events:
ABCC Beach Ball on Hallet's Beach
Our signature event is now fully booked and I am looking forward to what I know is going to be a special night.
Dennis Stokes will again cater the food and having spoken with Dennis, he really does have a special treat in store.
Marcia Southern will again put her hand to decorating the marquees and the regular band of helpers will transform Hallet's Beach into a magical setting.
We do need volunteers!!!!!
We're all getting older and we need as many volunteers as possible to help in set up and Sunday pack up too.
Kim Murray is our co coordinator for set up and pack up and I'd appreciate if those prepared to assist would contact Kim by phone 0408 899 591 or email kmurray@fgei.com.au
Jeff Sheehan and Mike McLaren have volunteered to transport our tents etc. to the beach.
Please advise urgently if you're on the list and can't attend as we do have a waiting list!
Details of the night:
Date: Saturday 12th March
Time: 6.30 pm for Commodore's Drinks, followed by dinner from 7.30pm. This year we'll provide Sparkling, white and red wine, soft drink and beer and leftovers will be placed on the tables.
BYO: drinks for dinner
Theme: Beach Ball Formal- men black tie from the waist up and lady's elegant formal on the top half
Charity Donation: Each year the club has made a donation to Charity with any surplus beach Ball funds.
This year we'll be making a donation to The Jack Luck Foundation in recognition of the tragic loss of Jack, the much loved son of long time ABCC Members Rob and Yulita Luck.
Let's pray that the weather Gods are kind on 12 March

Gosford Sailing Club Trip
After 3 previous fun visits, the Club will again cruise to Gosford Sailing Club.
If you haven't done the trip before, I'd highly recommend it as a great on water experience with guidance from a lot of experienced boaties.
Date: Saturday 9 April, 2016.
Details: We'll meet our pilot boat off Box Head at 9.30am and be guided up through Brisbane Water to Gosford sailing Club where members will be waiting to assist us to moor up "European Style" (anchors out front and tied to marina on the stern).
The GSC Bistro is open from 12 noon for lunch or some members may want to "throw a snag on their barbie" and have a drink on the Marina.
Dinner: Our dinner this year will be at Galley on Mason which is a 5 minute walk from the GSC.
We'll be served a 3 Course dinner for $60.00 per head.
Time: 6.30pm for a 7pm sit down
The Morning After: There are a couple of options for Sunday Breakfast with Galleys downstairs Café or Tommy's nearby.
Participants may elect to stay an extra night and that can be arranged on arrival at GSC.
To book (and pay for dinner) please advise Ross Unwin by phone 0439 899 591 or email runwin@fgei.com.au by 14 March.
Bank details are on our Club website.

Frank and Janet's Famous Trivia Night
We'll again hold our Trivia night on the night before our Peats Bite long lunch in the Club Room at the Marina
Date: Friday 13 May
Time: 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
BYO: Snacks and drinks
Peats Bite Long Lunch
Cruise up to Sunny Corner for our annual long lunch at Peats Bite.
In addition to about 8 moorings the Restaurant has completely remodelled the Marina so docking is now convenient and safe.
Date: Saturday 14 May
Time: Lunch is at 12 noon
Please advise me by phone 0417 272 092 or email robert.tay@bigpond.com so we can advise Peats Bite of numbers by 1 May.

Winter Raft up in Mushroom Bay
June Long Weekend- 11, 12 and 13 June
Turn right instead of left when exiting the Marina and Mushroom Bay is dead ahead. It is a fabulous calm anchorage and close to home for those who may want to tender in and out of the Marina.
Let's try and fill the Bay with ABCC Vessels and party away the Winter Blues!
Further details to follow but lock in the date.

Members Survey
We have attached a short survey of members to assist us in planning Club events. We are looking for new ideas and some new blood on the Committee too.
As Commodore I try to limit communication as I know we all get inundated, but I'd appreciate your input by completing the survey.

Thanks for your ongoing support and safe boating,

Bob Taylor
