Commodore's Message

Dear Members,
The last 12 months have been very active with quite a lot of social activities.
We had good turn outs at last year's Christmas lunch, the Gosford Sailing Club
raft up and dinner, Trivia night and Peats Bite long lunch.
Numbers were a bit down for the Christmas in July function but feedback was
mostly very positive.
Our signature event, the ABCC Annual Beach Ball was so popular we increased
numbers to70, which proved to be a bit too hard for our volunteers, especially in
respect to set up and catering. Dennis Stokes and his team again did an amazing
job in providing a fantastic feast on Hallets Beach and after a brief early shower
the weather Gods turned on a beautiful evening.
The Club currently has 66 member boats which is at an all time high.
We currently have 6 Club moorings - 2 in Refuge Bay, 2 in America Bay and 2
at The Basin.
We've just been advised by RMS that our application for a third mooring at The
Basin is being considered and if successful we'll accept. This will give us more
scope for Club events at The Basin and give members more options too.
After the AGM we have plans in place for a trip to Sydney Harbour in early
November. If we can make it happen it will be a gala event. We'll keep you
posted.
At last year's AGM we inducted Frank and Janet Gardner as Life Members. Ian
Franklin will present some paperwork at the AGM to ratify the rules for Life
Membership.
Circumstances change and people do to move on and I confirm that a number of
our long term Committee members won't be standing at this year's AGM
including Treasurer Marg Taylor, Barry Southern (and Marcia, who has been the
driving force behind the Beach Ball table and marquee decorations), Stephen
Smith, and our very effective club secretary, Ian Franklin.
I'm sure you'll join me in a warm vote of thanks to these folks who have given
tireless service and added great value to the Akuna Bay Cruising Club.
We do need some new Committee members and I urge anyone interested to
contact Ian Franklin before the AGM to ensure you don't miss out! New ideas
are really welcome.
Margaret and I will be unable to attend the AGM this year but I will stand for one
more year as Commodore if members want that to occur.
I'd like to formally acknowledge the management of d'Albora Akuna Bay.
Clemens, Evan and Eileen have been a pleasure to deal with and great supporters
of our Club.
The d'Albora Friday functions over the last year have greatly complemented the
ABCC calendar and enabled us to meet some of our neighbours at Akuna Bay.
We've had a number of functions at Cielo this year on which the feedback has
been overwhelmingly positive, due to the fact it really is a beautiful venue.
Christine and Pedro have tried hard to deliver for us and of course, we have the
added benefit that members can stay on their boats.
Having said that, we'll seek your feedback at the AGM as to whether we're "over
doing it"
If re-elected as your Commodore, I will undertake to have more information
nights and on water activities - not always well attended, but certainly worth
another try.
The ABCC website has a wealth of information and I urge members to make it
your first port of call when looking for information including contacts, upcoming
events and of course to view the excellent photo gallery with photos covering
much club history.
Thank you for your friendship and camaraderie. Marg and I look forward to
seeing many of you out on the water in the coming months.
