Commodore's Message

Friday 01 August, 2014

Dear Members,
My first year as Commodore has gone very fast and I must say I have enjoyed the chance to
welcome quite a few new members to the ABCC.
We close the year with 67 members boats, up from 54 last year- a really good increase.
Our six club moorings have been very well used with fantastic weather for most of the year.
The year in review
The ABCC is very much a social club which promotes safe boating, we did have a couple of
interesting speakers during the year with David Lyons from Roads and Maritime giving an
informative address in respect to many aspects of safety and compliance.
Keith Stewart a senior pilot with the Police Air Wing gave a fascinating talk (with amazing
photos) on the role of aircraft in the Police force.
We enjoyed many well attended social functions, several of which were held at Cielo on the
A real highlight, I believe, is that we have a first class, spacious venue right on the marina
where Christine and Pedro make us extremely welcome.
This year we went back to catering for our signature Beach Ball for the first time in many
years. Dennis Stokes and his team did a superb job and we plan to cater again next year.
Our April convoy to Gosford Sailing Club was a great success where Gordon Riley and his
team again made us very welcome
For a full update on all events held in the past 12 months, I commend you to the ABCC
Website where Keith and Jenny Turner (with help from Jeff Sheehan) have posted great
photos and commentary from all events.
Akuna Bay
I believe we have our boats at the best marina location in Australia and I commend
Clemens Overdyk and Evan Wooldridge on their customer service efforts - in particular the
Wine and Cheese Nights and Noodle Night where many Marina tenants got the chance to
meet and socialise.
The Annual General Meeting of the Akuna Bay Cruising Club will again be held at Cielo and I
hope most of our members are able to attend. The Club subsidises the cost (50%) to
members and their partners (i.e. $25.00 per head) and other family and friends are most
welcome at a cost of $50.00 per head.
Ian Franklin will send proxy forms and nomination forms for the Committee.
While the current Committee are prepared to serve another year, new nominations are
always welcome.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you at the AGM
Safe Boating and kind regards
Bob Taylor,
